Monica, the Owner, has been in the industry for over 10 years and has developed a name for herself and her quality of design while working at other flower shops in the city. Her passion lies in all floral design but she excels at wedding/event and corporate work. She is thrilled to help an overwhelmed Bride narrow down all her ideas into a stunning array of flowers that will set her day apart and is just as happy to meet with a corporate liaison to discuss their needs for an enormous event or for a weekly floral arrangement. She finds beauty in the most humble flower to the most exotic and will utilize them both in ways that surprise and delight.

Margot, our Junior Designer, comes to us with a very strong artistic background. She began her formal art education at the young age of 13, culminating with a Bachelors Degree in Ceramics from the Alberta College of Art and Design, minoring in Fiber Arts. This excellent foundation gives her the confidence to combine unique and interesting textures and colors to create a perfect piece of art. She is also an extremely accomplished creator of quilts and her developed eye for detail is evident in all her floral design. Margots' creativity and artistic talents fit right in with the vision at Modern Petals and we are excited to have her join us.

Lisa , our newest Designer comes to us with a strong background in floral technique and design. She started her training at Mount Royal College and where she graduated from the Floral Design Program. She then utilized these skills while working at a local Calgary Florist. Wishing to gain further knowledge, Lisa then attended the Canadian Institute of Floral Design. Upon graduation from this intensive course, she returned to Calgary and began her employment at Modern Petals. Her tremendous level of technical skill and her extensive care and handling knowledge are a valuable asset to the Modern Petals team.

Alanna, our new Shop Assistant joined us this year. Originally from the East Coast Alanna was worried about how the move to Calgary would affect her love of gardening. She needn't have worried as her excellent skills allowed her to quickly adapt to our decidedly different growing season. While formally trained as a nurse, upon leaving the field she wished to pursue a career that suited her passion for flowers and gardening - being a florist was the perfect fit. Alannas' fresh take on flowers is a welcome addition to our team.

We strive to be Eco-friendly with our products by supporting local Calgary growers, getting the majority of our flowers from BC, using naturally collected materials and by recycling and using recyclable or biodegradable products.
